Introduction to Adobe Photoshop - 4 hour Photoshop course in Manchester £80

Photoshop is a complex program and people often find it overwhelming. But I prefer to think of it as being like a city: As long as you know the way to your destination, you don't need to know every avenue, street or cul de sac..

And so it is with Photoshop. You it's not necessary to be an expert in every feature of the program. Most users only use a relatively small set of tools and functions, depending on the type of photography they do. I have selected the features I use most often.

I've been using Photoshop since 1994 and have used it to enhance thousands of images. Get the benefit of my experience and enthusiasm for this amazing program!

I've arranged the features we will cover into four topic areas. At the start of each our hour session we can agree on which of these we will do or do further topics if people are interested. You can work on any version of Photoshop including Elements. At beginner level, there are only small differences between them.

First steps in Photoshop
Opening files, quick enhancements, resampling, cropping, multiple undo, various ways to save files

Enhancing colour, contrast and composition
Opening files, tools to enhance colour balance, contrast, using 'Perspective Distort' filter to improve composition, saving files

Using paint tools to improve images
Paint tools, brushes, selecting areas, magic wand, clone tool, healing brush, fixing and/or removing objects or people in the picture

Using layers to do amazing things
Creating new layers, enhancing parts of images, layer masks, removing people from a scene, merging images to make panoramas, making HDR images, saving your work

Photographer Tutor Aidan O’Rourke has built up a wide range of professional experience in both film and digital photography. He first became interested in photography in 1981. Since 1996 he has documented Manchester and Liverpool in photos and words. He has taken the 'now' photos for Manchester Then and Now, Manchester United Then and Now and Liverpool Then and Now (Anova Books). 107 of his photos are featured in the book Rebuilding Manchester by Euan Kellie. He wrote the Q&A pages for the first 27 issues of Digital Camera Magazine. From July 2008 to April 2009, his gigantic Manchester Mega-Photo was displayed in the foyer at Manchester’s Urbis Museum. He is based in Stockport and covers Manchester, Liverpool and northern England.
