City Photo Walks Liverpool - Photographic Walking Tour of the city with Aidan O'Rourke

City Phoo Walks

My City Photo Walk is a photographic walking tour around Liverpool city centre. It's a kind of photography lesson 'on the hoof', with lots of opportunity to practice with your camera and get to know its capabilities.

The cost is £35 for the tour which lasts three and a half hours.

See 'Upcoming Events' to find out when the next tours are running

The meeting point is at the entrance to Lime Street Station at the top of the steps.

If you'd like to come on a tour let me know in advance by e-mail or you can phone or text 07779 290082. It's also possible to buy a voucher to give someone as a present.

If you have to cancel, no problem, you can come on another day. You can also just turn up on the day with no booking if you like!

Occasionally I have to cancel tours at short notice. Please, a few days beforehand, and on the day before you set off, go to www.aidan.co.uk and check the Upcoming Events box as well as my Twitter feed. This will confirm that the tour is going ahead. Thanks! Please also follow me on Twitter www.twitter.com/AidanORourkeCP

FAQs

How much does it cost?
The standard price is £35. Occasionally there are special offers where you can get it for less.

Do I need an SLR or is a compact okay?
You can bring any camera you like. You could even come with no camera at all and still benefit as you will pick up a lot of information and you can look over someone else's shoulder!

What happens if it rains?
There are covered places where we can go and we can go to a coffee bar to sit and cover the material but we might also walk and photograph in the rain so wear appropriate clothing!

What subjects do you cover?
I will give you my standard introduction to the basic principles of photography: aperture, shutter speed, ISO as well as focal length. We will look at the main camera controls and do test shots. Later we get creative and I will give you tips on how to take better photos as well. I will give you positive feedback on your photos. Every person received a goody bag with photo crib card and handouts.

When does it take place?
Mostly Saturdays, meeting at 1.15. The tour starts at 1.30pm and continues till around 5pm. Occasionally I will arrange tours on other days and at other times, details on the Upcoming Events notice.

Is there a set route?
No, every walking tour takes us through a different part of the city centre, which could include the area round St George's Hall and the Walker Art Gallery with its magnificent neo-classical buildings, the Pier Head and Albert Dock with views across water, the area around the Anglican Cathedral with its Georgian facades, as well as Chinatown with its Chinese arch brightly coloured signs. If you are willing to look, there are photo-opportunities everywhere.

How many people will there be?
I prefer to have between five and seven people. Sometimes it's less and sometimes it's more.

Where is the meeting point?
At the entrance to Lime Street Station at the top of the steps.
