The Manchester area is full of communities from all over the world. One of the fastest-growing groups are the Filipinos who have been coming to the UK to work in healthcare and other sectors. Now there is a shop dedicated to supplying them with their favourite food and drink. It's located on the A6 south of Stockport and is called Adele's Superstore.

Adele's Superstore is located at 269 Wellington Road South, Stockport, around 7 miles south of Manchester city centre. The postcode for satnav is SK1 3RA. Opening times are 10am to 7pm except Fridays 10am to 10pm and Sundays 12 noon to 7pm. The phone number is 0161 480 6748.

Adele's Superstore sells a wide range of Filipino and Oriental products. Here's a sample of what's on offer:

Thai Jasmine Rice in 25 kilo bags - Fresh exotic fruit and vegetables - All kinds of noodles including Filipino, Chinese and Japanese Udon noodles - Nissin noodles in a pot - All types of frozen fish and seafood, including milk fish (bangus), prawns and others - Non-Filipino Oriental products such as curry powder, Thai soups and sauces, Vietnamese soups and flavourings... Oriental drinks such as coconut (Buko) juice, C2 iced tea and others...

The shop also stocks more conventional products, like ketchup, peanut butter, cans of Coke and mineral water, though not alcohol or cigarettes.

Filipino community

There is a large Filipino community in the Manchester area and many of them travel some distance to visit the shop. But to make save time and muscle power, Adele's Superstore also offers home delivery up to quite some distance away. That can make a difference if the customer has bought one or two 25 kilo bags of rice. Filipinos love their rice!

For customers located outside the store's catchment area, it's possible to buy Filipino products via mail order. Currently the site has a downloadable price list. People choose from the list and order by phone or e-mail. A full e-commerce website is planned for the future.

Advantages of shopping at Adele's Superstore:

Cost - The prices are significantly below those you might pay in Chinatown or other city centre retail stores. And there's free parking next to the shop.
Convenience - The shop is close to people living in the Stockport / South Manchester area. It's on the 192 bus route, and just 5 minutes drive from the M60 motorway
Friendliness - Unlike at certain other oriental food outlets, you will always be given a warm welcome at Adele's Superstore.
Exclusive products - Adele's Superstore sells products you won't find at Tescos or Sainsbury's. There are some products on sale in the shop you won't find anywhere else but in the Philippines.
Home delivery - Whether you purchase at the store, or order by phone, larger orders can be delivered to your home.

Socialising and enjoying Filipino food

Adele's Superstore isn't just a place to buy goods. Filipinos like to gather there, either in the shop or upstairs in the multi-purpose room. There's nothing Filipinos like doing more than socialising whilst enjoying delicious Filipino food, and plenty of that goes on at Adele's Superstore.

Filipinos are very welcoming and friendly to guests, so whatever your nationality or origin, the chances are you will make new friends at Adele's Superstore.

Adele's Superstore was founded by my wife Ann Nazario, who is from Manila, Philippines. She decided to name the store after our daughter Adele (born 2001). So if you're visiting the store, the boss's name is Ann, not Adele!

The Adele's Superstore website was launched on Thursday 19th February 2009. Go to www.adelessuperstore.co.ukYou can also follow Adele's Superstore on Twitter. Go to www.twitter.com/adelesuperstore
