I offer friendly and informal private tuition in French language in the Stockport and south Manchester area. I can come to you, you can come to me in Stockport or I can teach you via Skype. I am a qualified teacher turned online media professional with a great enthusiasm for languages.

I can provide tutoring in French language from beginner to intermediate level for either school age students or adults. Here are some examples of the types of student I can help:

The main benefit of private tuition is the ability to interact with the student, work according to their level and provide personalised coaching. In a class, you have to share the teacher's time with a number of others. Very often, students struggle with classroom work as it might be above their level, and they may have errors and other difficulties which the teacher is unable to deal with, or may be unaware of.

Working with me, I will gear the tuition entirely according to your level and not only that, I will assess your innate ability to learn languages and find ways to improve your learning performance. I will show you methods you can use to improve your retention of vocab, and how you can deal with the complexities of French grammar.

One of the key processes in successful language learning is making errors and having them corrected. Many learners are afraid of making mistakes, and find them demotivating. However mistakes are the key to learning as they uncover the areas where you need to improve.

My teaching is highly effective and can help students to make real progress. I've been teaching and tutoring since 1983 and have built up lots of skills and resources. I use a combination of old fashioned teaching methods with state of the art technology. My tutoring isn't just 'conversation' it's an all round intensive system to enable you to make real progress. That progress might be slow, or it could be more rapid, but I guarantee that you will improve, and that I think you will also enjoy the lessons and find them absorbing and satisfying.

Pricing and availability

My standard rate is 25 pounds per session of one hour plus. If you come to me, or via Skype, the rate is £20 per hour. I say 'one hour plus' as I usually go beyond the hour if I think it's worth doing some extra time!.

I am available in the day time or in the evening, also at weekends. I can come to your home in the Stockport or south Manchester area, or you can come to my workspace in Stockport or we can do the lessons via Skype - or a combination of all three!.

My credentials, motivation and passion for teaching French language

I have been fascinated by languages from an early age. I started learning French when I was at primary school. I went on to study it at Xaverian College grammar school and then at Trinity College Dublin. I graduated with a BA Honours Degree in German and French (class 2.1). I gained the PGCE in Modern Language and English. I taught in schools, Further Education and then went abroad to teach English. in 1996 I left teaching to develop my photography and online publishing career but felt a growing desire to teach languages again.

Through tutoring, I have re-discovered the thrill, excitement and satisfaction of language learning.
