The Northern Quarter: Greenwich Village of Manchester?
Written by Aidan O'Rourke 2007-09-13
The Northern Quarter is the area off the Market St - Piccadilly axis of Manchester city centre. This area was first called the Northern Quarter during the 1980s, when the area around Oldham Street and Tib Street began to develop as a bohemian district, with off-beat bars, boutiques and alternative traders. Manchester's Northern Quarter offers some interesting parallels with Greenwich Village in New York, but is it as good as its transatlantic cousin?
