Review of www.elevatedphotos.com high level photography

What can you do when you want to take a high level view, but there is no building or vantage point to take it from. You could try using a balloon or hire the services of a photographically gifted carrier pigeon, but an easier solution is to use the aerial photography masts developed and marketed by Leicestershire-based elevatedphotos.com

The product could be summed up as a kind of giant tripod, in fact their marketing material refers to "the biggest 'little tripod' around. Each one consists of a base with a telescopic pole. On top of the pole is a mount for the camera. The pole is extended upwards, providing a bird's eye view. The camera is controlled from below using a laptop computer. The mast can also be mounted on a vehicle.

Masts come in a range of heights, starting with a sub 1000 pound EP5M that goes up to 5 metres or 16 feet. At the top of the range is the colossal EP26M rising 26 metres or 85 feet, that's one sixth of Blackpool Tower.

A network of photographers around the UK and abroad use the technology to take photos for all kinds of clients. Photographers can also benefit from marketing materials and expertise from elevatedphoto.com

At Focus on Imaging 2006 I spoke to their managing director Simon Bourne who told me that since setting up the firm five years ago, they have grown enormously and expanded into many countries, particularly the United States.
