From 2009 I am offering tutoring and training on a freelance basis in my two main areas of expertise: photography and languages. Tutoring is provided on a one-to-one basis at home. Training can be one-to-one or to small groups in the workplace or at a training centre. Read on for more information and to find out my extensive teaching and training experience

Photography - German - English as a Foreign Language

Tutoring is carried out mainly on a one-to-one basis, as a follow up to a course or other programme of study. The main aim is to provide intensive practice, reinforcement and remedial work.

Training is carried out one-to-one or in small groups, in-company or at a training centre. A training course is a self-contained programme of study.

Experience in two careers

Since 1996 I have gained recognition as a photographer, writer and website publisher. Prior then I had built up 13 years continuous experience as a teacher of languages. From 2009 I am bringing my two careers together to provide a unique set of offerings.

My work has always had an educational element. My photos and web pages have been used as a source of information and research. Subjects have included the recent development of Manchester, principles of photography, the history of fashion photography and the cities of eastern Germany from the eighties to the present day. My pages on the VW camper van provide essential information for potential buyers and enthusiasts.

I worked as an English Language instructor in the United Arab Emirates from 1992 to 1996 and in Saudi Arabia from 1991 to 1992. In the UK I worked in Further Education from 1983 to 1991 teaching languages. Whilst teaching I developed my interest in photography.

Photography is a very powerful tool in a teaching context, and I make extensive use of it in my tutoring and training. I am planning new websites presenting audio and video material as well as articles and other media aimed at people learning German and English, as well as anyone else who is interested. The sites will have a strong photographic element and, building on my previous experience, will be focused on Manchester and North West England.

Benefits of a personal tutor

There are various ways to acquire an area of knowledge or a skill: You can join a class, buy a book or DVD course, or sign up for an online course. Learning this way can enable you to make progress, but there is one thing missing: The dedicated attention of an expert who can focus on your performance, point out errors you wouldn't otherwise be aware of, help you with those areas where you need to improve.

A tutor gives you a sense of confidence. Not everyone can enjoy the benefit of a personal tutor, whose input can enable you to progress much faster than if you were working on your own.

Benefits of a customised training course

With a customised training course of the type I offer, I am able to tailor the work to your requirements. Working with an individual or small group I can provide intensive practice and carefully pitch the level of the work.

Courses can be provided in-company or at a training centre and can be arranged to fit around work times. It's much more flexible and less time-consuming and generally provides a more productive experience than a standard course provided by an outside institution.

Tuition fees are flexible and can be negotiated to fit in with available budgets.
