Shaky view of the pedestrian underpass at Alexanderplatz in the centre of Berlin. Built as part of the reconstructed centre in the east, the underpasses now show signs of decay and can appear threatening.

Why did I take this photo? I wanted to capture my experience of walking through an east Berlin underpass in the early hours of the morning. The photo is unsteady thanks to the generosity of the German Cultural Foundation who provided sumptuous food and refreshments on the pre-opening night of the Shrinking Cities exhibition.
