An American actor visits Tokyo to
film a whiskey advert. Suffering mid-life marital pains and feeling lost in a foreign
culture he strikes up a friendship with young attractive Charlotte. A fumbling initial
encounter grows into mutual respect, culminating in a touching final scene.
Atmospheric and absorbing, with beautiful music and cinematography, the meandering moods and uncertainties of the two main characters are the main focus. The city becomes a mystifying backdrop to the story. This film felt so close to reality, it was as if I'd lived it myself. One of the best movies I've seen for a very long time. Lost in Translation is written and directed by Sofia Coppola. About the photos This image is from the portfolio of Aidan O'Rourke photographer writer website publisher.
