The Seven Ages of Manchester Festival celebrated Manchester's past present and future, with a wide range of activities and attractions in Exchange Square, with a festival village consisting of stalls provided by participating organisations, including the Museum of Science and Industry, the Imperial War Museum North and Urbis.

Visitors enjoyed a timetable of music, street theatre, walking tours and displays, focusing on the seven ages of Manchester, i.e. Roman, Tudor, Civil War, Industrial Revolution, 40's and 50's, Present and Future. The festival was free and everyone was welcome to visit and participate.

In association with the BBC, the festival was recorded on video, with live images presented on the Big Screen in Exchange Square. Distinguished radio broadcaster Mike Shaft introduced the events and for some of the time, did live broadcasts on BBC GMR.

The 7 Ages of Manchester Festival was fun, educational and free, and for the first time brought the members and volunteers of the Manchester Civic Society into direct contact with the general public on the streets of the city. It was great! The 7 Ages of Manchester Festival will hopefully become an annual event.
