Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic church occupies a hilltop location in Wallasey, near the River Mersey, and can be seen from many parts of Liverpool. The church is Grade 2 listed and was designed by E Bower Norris of Sandy and Norris Architects of Stafford and London.

In 2007, the future of this church is under threat, as the owners - the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury - are considering options for its future, one of which involves demolition. A large number of local people have voiced their opposition to the demolition of SS Peter and Paul church in a petition.

AOR says: SS Peter and Paul church an important symbol in the skyline overlooking the Mersey Estuary, and provides a counterpoint to the famous landmarks on the Liverpool side. For generations, its striking outline has greeted travellers arriving and departing by ship - myself among them. The church has an inspirational and spiritual quality that appeals to all people, irrespective of their beliefs. It would be a scandal to allow this building to be demolished.

My photograph shows threatening grey clouds coming from the south. Let's hope the church lives on for future generations.
