The Pier Head Liverpool in the 1960s was the site of the city's main bus terminal. Here passengers could get buses to destinations all over Liverpool and beyond, or take the ferry across the Mersey to Birkenhead or New Brighton.

In front of us are many examples of Liverpool's distinctive green and cream rear engined double decker buses. There are also some rear platform buses, including those in red livery parked by the Cunard Building. One corner of the Liver Building is just visible on the left. On the right is the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board building.

This photo is a visual representation of my childhood memories of visiting Liverpool in the 1960s. The sight of the green and cream buses lined up by the Pier Head is a very strong memory, and it's a sight I miss even today. Liverpool's green municipal buses were an essential element of the city's identity, and I think they should be brought back.
