On the left is the curved end of the Urbis Centre, on the right, the facade of Chetham's School. In the middle is the tower of Manchester Cathedral, which dates from medieval times, though what we see today is largely the work of the Victorians.

This image was chosen to feature in the exhibition "New Urbanity. The European City of the 21st Century", Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt, 5 Dec 08 to 22 Feb 09.
