Looking along Airport Road towards Deira from the pedestrian footbridge just after sunset. On the right is a neon advert for Konica film. The sky has turned a deep orange, typical of sunsets in the Gulf. Further along on the right is a neon advert for Hyundai cars, and beyond the Clock Tower, the Embassy Suites. In the 1990s Dubai had a relaxed, open feel about it, with space to move and no parking meters! Today Dubai is a lot more hectic and crowded. The clock tower, built in the 1960s when this area was empty desert, looks the same today as it did in 1994. We often had the excellent Indian/Oriental buffet at the Caravan Restaurant, and stayed at the Embassy Suites on return visits in 2000 and 2001.
