Copy of an illustrated map taken from the book 'Polyolbion' by Michael Drayton, first published 1611. London and other cities along the Thames are represented as ladies, each wearing a crown. London and nearby Westminster are the biggest and most important cities, and a woman stands between them, holding two church spires in her hands. The
M60 book has a copy of part of the south east Lancashire page showing Chat Moss, Pendle
Hill and Rochdale. Manchester is symbolised by a lady with a stylised cathedral on her
head.
