This is the Britannia Bridge in the 1950s, looking from the Anglesey side towards the mainland, wiht the mountains of Snowdonia in the background. The bridge was built by Robert Louis Stephenson, and was destroyed by fire in 1971. It was rebuilt for use as a combined road and railway bridge. Two stone lions can be seen on either side of the track 'guarding' the entrance to the bridge.
