This former admin block is part of the preserved GDR border checkpoint on the A2 motorway between Hannover and Berlin. The style of architecture is typical GDR with the use of prefabricated concrete sections

Inside the block are offices and exhibits relating to the border checkpoint. This site used to be a major crossing point into East Germany. It was the scene of many examples of Cold War intrigue and the callous disregard for human rights which was a hallmark of the GDR regime. It closed in 1990 following the reunification of Germany.
