East Berlin in 1984. The Alexanderplatz is the main square in the Soviet-style capital of the GDR. In the corner of the square on the left is the Weltzeituhr or World Time Clock. Four men in their early twenties walk across the 'Alex' on their way to a bar or cafe. West Berlin, only ten minutes away on foot, is forbidden territory for GDR citizens.

Ostberlin 1984. Der Alexanderplatz ist der wichtigste Platz in der 'Hauptstadt der DDR' deren Architektur von der Sowjetunion stark geprägt ist. In der Ecke links steht die Weltzeituhr. Vier junge Männer überqueren den 'Alex'. Sie gehen wahrscheinlich zu einer Bar oder Cafe in der Nähe. Westberlin liegt nur 10 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt, ist aber für DDR-Bürger verboten.

It was very exciting to visit East Berlin during the GDR era.

Es war sehr spannend zu DDR-Zeiten Ostberlin zu besuchen!
