East Berlin in 1984. The Alexanderplatz is the main
square in the Soviet-style capital of the GDR. In the corner of the square on
the left is the Weltzeituhr or World Time Clock. Four men in their early twenties walk
across
the 'Alex' on their way to a bar or cafe. West Berlin, only ten
minutes away on foot, is forbidden territory for GDR citizens.
It was very exciting
to visit East Berlin during the GDR era.
