Looking towards the heart of modern Dresden from the suburbs on high ground to the south of the city.

Landmarks include the Rathaus or town hall, whose tower reaches just up to the horizon. Behind it is the Frauenkirche and on the left, the Schloss or castle. Dresden is situated in the wide valley of the River Elbe, which famously burst its banks in 2002.
