Victoria Square was transformed by the addition around 1993 of the water feature named The River, with the statue of the reclining River Goddess by Dhruva Mistry. Two figures on either side of the lower fountain represent youth. Dominating the scene is the Council House, completed 1879 and home of Birmingham City Council.

This photo was used by Dhruva Mistry for a presentation in India, where he is now based.
