Looking from the south east side of O'Connell Bridge across the River Liffey towards O'Connell Street with the Dublin Spire rising up. The bridge was opened in 1880 and replaced a much narrower bridge. O'Connell Bridge is a focal point in Dublin city centre, and has great significance for people from or with connections to Ireland. But prior to its construction in 1880, the centre of Dublin was further up the river around Capel Street Bridge.
