This bridge was opened in 1982 and named after a Dublin Councillor. Of plain modern functional design in reinforced concrete, the curves on the underside recall the much older bridges further downstream. This bridge removed traffic from the neighbouring Heuston Bridge of 1828. The ornate facade of Heuston, formerly Kingsbridge Station, dating from 1842, is visible beyond. I have very vivid memories of arriving at Heuston Station as a child. I regarded the station as desperately small and old fashioned with its ugly, incongruous facade which didn't look like a railway station at all. Today facade has been renovated, the station is being extended and trams will soon be stopping outside.
