Looking down the river towards the city centre, a grey sky is reflected on the surface of the river. Buildings on either side, the church tower and the bridge are silhouetted in the dull light.

Even in modernised Dublin, there are views which at certain angles and in certain weather conditions recapture the atmosphere of old Dublin. In this scene modern elements are minimised and it is as if we have stepped back 100 years to the time of James Joyce. As a child I found this part of Dublin very old fashioned and depressing.
