The Liverpool Institute was originally a school and was re-opened as LIPA, the Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts. A new building was constructed behind the original facade. Inside the windows on the first floor are rehearsal rooms.

Liverpool Institute portico

Title:Liverpool Institute portico
Filename:LivInstSqBX28.jpg
Technical details: Canon 550D digital SLR camera. This image consists of three photographs merged in Photoshop. The 18mm lens (equivalent to 24mm in traditional 35mm photography) was not wide enough to take in the full height of the building, street and sky, so I took three photographs. The bottom section from below the line of the steps was added on. The sky was added on at the top. Because the building is north facing, it is nearly always impossible to expose correctly for both the building and the sky above it, so I took a section of sky from another and carefully pasted it in above the roof line. I have used the square format, which is an older and today mostly neglected aspect ratio.
