The Port of Liverpool Building stands on the Pier Head, overlooking the River Mersey. It was designed by Arnold Thornley and completed in 1907. Constructed of Portland Stone, the Port of Liverpool Buildig has strong echoes of St Paul's Cathedral in London. I remember on childhood visits to Liverpool being very impressed with the whiteness of Liverpool's buildings, which seemed to 'sing' in the sunshine.
