Detail of the bow of the Cutty Sark, Greenwich , London, captured 16 March 2003. The statue is of the Cutty Sark witch. She is holding the tail of Tam O'Shanter's horse, as recounted in the poem by Robert Burns. 'Cutty Sark' means 'short shirt' in Scottish dialect, i.e the revealing garment she is wearing.

The Cutty Sark was built in 1869 and designed by Hercules Linton. The Cutty Sark is Grade I listed and classed as a 'building at risk'. On 21 May 2007 the Cutty Sark, at the time under renovation, was seriously damaged in a fire. Much of the fabric of the ship was off site including, I understand, the Cutty Sark figurehead.
