The Apollo Hammersmith is one of the UK's best known rock music venues. It was formerly known as the Hammersmith Apollo and saw performances by many legends of music, including Black Sabbath, The Who, Iron Maiden and most famously, David Bowie, who in 1973 announced to a shocked audience that he was ending his career. The buidling has been known as the Carling Apollo since 1992

Thought I wasn't there to witness it, I will always associate the Hammersmith Odeon with David Bowie's famed final gig that didn't turn out to be his final gig at all. The building is owned by Clear Channel, also owners of Manchester's Opera House and Palace Theatre. In 2003 I photographed the Palace Theatre Manchester in return for theatre tickets.
