Manchester's mills, the brick-built multi-storey industrial buildings constructed during the Industrial Revolution, are currently being destroyed at an unprecedented rate. A few days after I took this photo I noticed that the left hand end of this building had disappeared. The mills within the Ancoats preservation area by the Rochdale Canal have been saved and renovated, but mills like this one a short distance away outside the conservation area have been allowed to disappear.

The mills along the Ashton Canal formed an historic ensemble and should all have been kept intact.
