This panoramic image was captured from the roof of the Manchester Evening News Arena on 21 October 2008. It captures Manchester city centre just as the sky is getting dark. Dominating the picture on the left is the CIS Building, with its recently added solar panels. Other landmarks visible include the Arndale Tower, and further in the distance, City Tower (former Sunley Tower), and on the far right, No 1 Deansgate and the Hilton (Beetham) tower.

The original high resolution image consists of two sets of elements: 1) A wide cityscape panorama consisting of overlapping images taken a wide angle lens. 2) Individual images taken with the zoom lenses pasted onto the lower resolution background. The total number of images used to make this photograph is probably around 30. The buildings all have a 'hyper' resolution and sharpness. The darker areas have a 'softer' resolution. In order to create this image, I had to make three visits to the MEN Arena roof, with assistant Barry Robertson, and then spend many hours in Photoshop crafting it. I had to split the high resolution version into four sections due the the huge file size.
