The arc-shaped footbridge across the canal basin at Castlefield leads to Barça Square, named after the city of Barcelona. Barça bar was a pioneering example of the conversion of old structures for contemporary uses. It was built into brick arches arches, part of one of the 19th century railway viaducts. Sadly, Barça closed in December 2008, according to the Wikipedia entry for Castlefleld. I have photographed Barça many times and have attended events there. It's difficult to imagine that it could be another victim of the changing times. In summer, without the bar and the people sitting outside, this spot is much less attractive. With the loss of Barça regeneration has taken a step backwards. About the photos This image is from the portfolio of Aidan O'Rourke photographer writer website publisher.
