Reconstructed southern entrance to the Roman fort in Manchester. For many years, the few remaining bits of the Roman fort lay buried and forgotten. Original stones were uncovered in the 1940s, and in the 1980s the fort was reconstructed as it might have looked.

Manchester is named after the Roman name Mamucium, or 'breast-shaped hill'.
