We are looking across the junction of Palatine Rd and Lapwing Lane towards the row of shops. Lapwing Lane continues east towards Burnage and at Wilmslow Rd becomes Fog Lane.

The ornate bank building on the corner is now a branch of Royal Bank of Scotland. Next to it, the former post office is a pizza restaurant. The shops further along retain cast iron awnings in the style of the Victorian era.

Running diagonally from left to right underneath this junction is the former Midland Railway line from Central Station to Didsbury, Hazel Grove and New Mills. On the left was the station Withington and Didsbury. Under the plans for the Metrolink expansion, the line is to reopen for use by trams..

We are in the heart of the Victorian suburbs of south Manchester, one of the most sought after and expensive areas of the city.
