This is the view from one of the apartments near the top of Islington Wharf apartment building, situated on Great Ancoats Street to the south east of the city centre. On the left, further in the distance, is the Beetham Hilton tower (completed 2007). Dominating the centre is City Tower, formerly Sunley Tower, part of Piccadilly Plaza (completed 1965). From whichever angle you look at it, Manchester has an impressive skyline with a number of high rise buildings. Not as tall or spectacular as cities in the US, Canada or Australia, but still quite imposing and photogenic. Most tall buildings in Manchester city centre were built on the sites of buildings destroyed in the Blitz. The exception is the Beetham Hilton Tower which was built on
