Detailed zoom view of the top of City Tower, formerly Sunley Tower. In 2005 the building is undergoing renovations by owners Bruntwood Properties which will transform its appearance. Architects Stephenson Bell are carrying out the work. Roger Stephenson made an application to have the building listed, but it was turned down.

Piccadilly Plaza is one of Manchester's most criticised buildings, but I like it. It was begun in 1958, the year of my birth, and I remember visiting it in 1965 shortly after it opened. The changes currently being carried out will radically alter its external appearance. As a landmark piece of 50's / 60's modern architecture in the UK, I think it ought to have been kept as it was, but I will reserve final judgement until the renovations are complete.
