"The Nikon F is the forerunner of all 35mm SLRs. In 1959, when the professional 35mm camera market seemed dominated by Leica and their rangefinder cameras, the world drew its breath as the first serious SLR from Japan arrived on the scene. What followed became history, establishing the SLR with its 'through the lens' viewing as the norm for all serious and amateur camera users. With a full range of accessories such as interchangeable (metering) prism viewfinders, replacement 250 exposure backs and motor drives, this sytem camera has never looked back."
