A white house stands on the hill protected by railings and a high wall covered in leaves. At the foot of the wall a lack Morris Minor is parked on the road, Church Brow. The Cheshire village of Bowdon (Old English 'boga-dun' round shaped hill) became an affluent Victorian suburb in the 19th century. Around this time, wealthy factory owners, industrialists and reformers moved out of Manchester and the smoky atmosphere to this idyllic place with views over the Cheshire countryside to the south Many new residential developments have appeared in Bowdon, some designed in a way that attempts to blend in with the Victorian setting. In my opinion, only the original 19th century houses have the charm and aura that makes Bowdon such a special place.
