The pre-1960s road sign indicating 'A6 Manchester' is still in place on the A6 south of Chorley. These signs date from the 1920s and 30s and were largely replaced by newer style road signs in the 1960s. A few of the older signs still survive, especially along the A6 in Lancashire. It's great to see the old signs still there, still doing their original job, but how long before they are thrown on the scrap heap in the name of 'upgrading', 'improvement', or 'modernisation'?
