Stamford St in Ashton-under-Lyne, with the tower of the disused baths and the clock tower of St Peters church on the eastern side of the town. Part way down the street are the Belisha beacons of a pedestrian crossing. This part of Ashton is indicated on road signs as the 'Old Town' which conjures up images of medieval buildings as in an Altstadt or stare mesto in central Europe. Though not as ancient or well preserved, the centre of Ashton is still quite interesting,
