Statue of General Douglas McArthur, depicting him as he appeared during the Second World War. General McArthur was based on Corregidor for many years. He was famous for this waving gesture, and for his words uttered after the Japanese invasion of the Philippines 'I shall return'. This
statue is the first stop on the tour of Corregidor island. Thanks to Dave Starr for
correcting me - I originally quoted the words as 'I will return'.
