Actress Tara Daniels is given the 'Solarized' effect. The top row is black and white positive and negative, the bottom row is the same for colour. The 'Solarize' filter in Photoshop recreates the darkroom effect discovered by Man Ray and Lee Miller in the 1930's and was extensively used in 1930's fashion photography. This composite image created to illustrate a piece in my Q&A section Digital Camera Magazine Issue 9 (June 2003). The original still was taken during a performance of the play 'The Lover', which Tara co-directed and also acted in.

I love the Solarize effect which is particularly effective with female portraits and could be put to good use in fashion photography. I'm not sure how well this digital version compares with the chemically-produced effect.
