Tragi-comedy based on the play by Shelagh Delaney about the precarious existence of teenage Jo (Rita Tushingham) and her feckless mother (Dora Bryan). Jo's affair with a mixed-race sailor, her pregnancy and subsequent friendship with a homosexual shop assistant are set against the backdrop of the decaying but fascinating urban landscape of Stockport, Manchester, Salford and Blackpool in the early sixties.

'A Taste of Honey' was a visionary taste of the future, where once marginal groups have gone mainstream. The film provides tantalising glimpses of Stockport and Salford as I vaguely remember them. The kaleidoscopic music score adds extra atmospheric hues. Watch out for a continuity error in the Blackpool Central Pier scene, where the tide is in, then suddenrly out! Still one of my all time favourite films.
