The Lancastrian Hall and Central Library overlooks the A6 in Swinton, directly opposite Salford Civic Centre, former Swinton and Pendlebury town hall.

The building is in a familiar 1960s style using concrete slabs and pebbledash. Buildings like this are generally poorly regarded nowadays. The exterior of the building is of a very unattractive colour, and has not weathered well, but in other respects I believe it has some merit. It is one of a number of libraries overlooking the A6 including Stockport Central Library.
