We are now driving from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi, but we've made a diversion via Sweihan, where I worked as an English teacher from September 1993 to June 94. Every day we commuted the 111 km (70 miles) between Abu Dhabi and Sweihan by bus or car. I also used this road (left) to get to Al- Ain. In 2000 I see that the Sweihan road has been upgraded - it's now a four lane highway, with crash barriers and kilometre markers - this one says "Sweihan 15 km" NB, the Arabic 5 looks like zero.These new kilometre markers alternate between Arabic and English.

Wir fahren jetzt von Al Ain nach Abu Dhabi, machen aber einen Umweg über Sweihan, wo ich 1993/94 als Englischlehrer gearbeitet habe. (Siehe Foto von meinen Kollegen) Mit Betriebsbus oder Auto pendelten wir jeden Tag die 111km zwischen Abu Dhabi und Sweihan. Ich benutzte auch manchmal diese Strasse (links), um nach Al-Ain zu fahren. Im Jahre 2000 entdecke ich, dass die Sweihan-Strasse verbessert worden ist - Sie ist jetzt vierspurig, hat eine Leitplanke und Kilometersteine - Auf diesem steht: "Sweihan 15 km". Vorsicht! Die Zahl 5 in arabisch sieht wie ein Null aus! Diese neuen Kilometeranzeiger alternieren zwischen arabisch und englisch. (Übersetzung von Isabella Turner)
