Road to the north of Al-Ain United Arab Emirates leading over gently undulating terrain with the striking red dunes on either side. The road terminates at Bida Bint Saud, a mound which rises up out of the desert like a mini Uluru / Ayers Rock. There are remains of prehistoric burial chambers on the mound. We rarely get to hear about the good side of the Middle East in the media at the moment. The UAE is a remarkable combination of ultra-modern cities and ancient landscapes. I lived there from 1992 to 1996 and have visited regularly since.
