Red sand like this covers much of the eastern part of Abu Dhabi emirate. The wind has made ripples in the smooth fine sand.

Fine red sand is not just an attractive feature of the terrain - it is also a characteristic of the geological conditions for oil, foundation of the UAE's massive economic wealth.
