The Old Souq is an area of shops and market stalls in downtown Abu Dhabi. Electronic goods, watches, carpets, hardware goods, household items and gold are some of the things on sale here. With the opening around 2001 of a new souq further out of the city it was proposed to demolish this one, but in 2002 it is still here.

Though of little architectural merit, the Old Souq is lively, bright and conveniently located. it would be a shame if it were closed to be replaced by more of Abu Dhabi's medium-rise blocks.
