16 views of the ubiquitous yellow taxis seen on the streets of New York City. The standard New York cab seen here is the Ford Crown Victoria, which has a fuel consumption of 14 mpg. From 2008 a new fleet of greener taxi cabs will start to appear on the streets of New York which consume half the petrol and also have far lower emissions.

It's sad that the old Checker taxi cabs are no longer there, but these new Ford cabs are worthy successors. They are solid, spacious and very American. The vast majority of New York taxi cab drivers are foreign born.
