The Catholic Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, on Oxford
Road Manchester, was designed for the Jesuit order by Joseph Aloysius
Hansom, inventor of the Hansom cab,. It is inspired by the great cathedrals
of France. It was built in two stages: the main church opened in 1871,
and the tower was completed in 1928 using stone of a slightly darker colour
to the lower section.
