St Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton-under-Lyne is one
of many churches which have disappeared due to dwindling congregations.
Modest in scale it was still attractive, with its small steeple and circular
stained glass window. It was built to serve the Irish immigrant population
of the area. The church was deconsecrated in December 2002 and demolished
shortly after. The site is currently empty.
