The old St Augustine's Roman Catholic Church was bombed
in the 1940 blitz. LS Lowry drew and painted the ruin, which was later
removed. It stood close to this point, now underneath the Mancunian Way.
We are looking from Oxford Rd. Many regard the Holy Name as Manchester's
unofficial Catholic cathedral, but just imagine if this space, like the
Wieliczka mine in Poland, could be turned into a shadowy improvised cathedral.
